Thank you for joining The Mother Network
Our mission is to support mothers at each stage of their journey. We prioritize your privacy and aim to provide transparency in how we collect, use, and share your data. This policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and your options for managing your privacy.
Scope of the Privacy Policy
The Mother Network Inc. ("The Mother Network," "we," "us," "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and mobile applications (collectively, the "Services"). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully.
This Privacy Policy applies to all users of The Mother Network globally. For users within the EEA, UK, and other regions with data privacy laws, we adhere to regulations like GDPR and will highlight specific terms relevant to these jurisdictions.
1. How We Collect Data
1.1 When you give it to us or give us permission to obtain it
You can access The Mother Network through various means such as your email, Facebook, or Google accounts. When you use The Mother Network websites, apps, services, technologies, APIs, widgets or any other products, you share certain information voluntarily, including:
- Account information: When you join our Services, we collect information such as your name, email address, date of birth, gender, country of residence, interests, and preferred language. We also collect optional information such as your stage of motherhood, and birthdates of your children.
- Content: We collect information when you save or upload posts, photos, or other content, interact with posts, polls, or other content (for example, leaving a review of a post), or when you send messages and interact with other users.
- Your communications with us: If you contact us for customer support or for another reason through any of our channels, we collect the content of these communications.
1.2 We also get technical information when you use The Mother Network
Like other websites or mobile apps, when you use The Mother Network websites, apps, services, technologies, APIs, widgets or any other products, certain Internet and electronic network activity information from within the product or site is created and logged automatically. Here are some of the types of information we collect:
- Device information: We collect information about the device you use to access our Services, including the device type, operating system, network service provider, settings, and unique device identifiers.
- Log data: When you use our Services, our servers record information (“log data”), including information that your browser automatically sends whenever you visit a website, or that your mobile app automatically sends when you’re using it. This log data includes, for example, your Internet Protocol (IP) address, activity on websites you visit that incorporate The Mother Network features (such as the 'Save' button), browser type and settings, and the date and time when you accessed the Services.
- Information from cookies and similar technologies: We also use ‘cookies’ or similar technologies to obtain log data. For example, we use cookies to store your language preferences or other settings so you don‘t have to set them up every time you visit The Mother Network. For more information about how we use cookies, you can review our Cookie Policy.
- Usage data and inferences: When you’re on our Services, we use your activity – such as which posts you click on, terms you search for, communities you join, recommendation lists or wishlists you create, any text you add in the description, reviews, or other information entered for the post, recommendation list, or wish list – along with other information you’ve provided when you first signed up as well as information to make inferences about you and your preferences. For example, if you create a wish list for postpartum items, we may infer you are pregnant or recently gave birth.
- Location information: We use your IP address to infer your approximate location, even if you don't choose to share your precise location, and photos you share may include information about the location where they were taken.
- User preferences: We will keep a record of preferences you’ve selected in your settings, including privacy settings and whether you have enabled certain notifications or forms of communication from The Mother Network.
- Marketing communication: We also collect information on your preferences in receiving marketing communications from us, as well as your communication preferences (“Marketing and Communications Data”). You can control these in your user settings.
- Behavioral data: We collect “Behavioral Data”, which is inferred or assumed information relating to your behavior and interests, based on your online activity. This is typically collated and grouped into “segments.” For example, there may be a segment for women living in Chicago.
- Your content data: You can post content on the App and/or participate in chats or community topics through the app. This content may contain personal data, but only what you choose to disclose. (For example, you can make your profile private, or post anonymously.)
- Aggregated Data: We collect, use, and may share “Aggregated Data” such as statistic-based or demographic-based data for any purpose. Aggregated Data may be derived from your personal data, but once in aggregated form it will not constitute as or be considered personal data for the purposes of the GDPR and other applicable data protection laws as this data does not directly or indirectly reveal your identity. In the case we combine or connect Aggregated Data with your personal data in a way it can directly or indirectly identify you, we will treat the combined data as personal data, which will be used in accordance with this Policy.
Please note that we do not collect any “Special Categories of Personal Data” about you (this includes details about your race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, information about your health, and genetic and biometric data). We also do not collect any information about criminal convictions or offenses. This being said, you have the option of providing such information in your profile or in any information you publish on our App, for instance by sharing your sexual orientation with other users. Please do not submit any Special Categories of Personal Data if you are not happy for the information to be shared publicly on your Mother Network account.
1.3 Our partners and advertisers share information with us
We also may receive information about you and your activity outside The Mother Network from our affiliates, advertisers, partners, and other third parties we work with. For example:
- Third-party platforms: If you register for or log in to the Service using a third-party platform (such as Facebook or Google), they will provide certain information to us, such as your name, to facilitate your account creation and login capabilities on The Mother Network.
2. How we use the information we collect
We’re committed to showing you content that’s relevant to you. To do that, we may use your information to provide and improve your experience, including to:
- Account creation and management: In order to register you as a member, offer you our services and features, and to allow you to participate in interactive features of our service, when you choose to do so, we use data such as your registration information and your content data, which is needed in order to provide you with the services of the app. We will also use this data to notify you about changes to our service.
- Identify you when you use our Services.
- Recommend posts or content you might like based on your activity on our Services. For example, if you have indicated you are pregnant and are searching for pregnancy-related items, we may prioritize showing posts that are relevant to pregnancy.
- Provide support by responding to your questions, comments, or any content you may have reported.
- Build your community: We may use your info to suggest communities or other people who are in similar stages of motherhood, with similar interests. We also use data to help your friends find you on The Mother Network. For example, people can search for your account on The Mother Network by using your name or email address.
- Send you updates and marketing communications (when consent is given), including by email and push notifications. You can unsubscribe from our marketing emails at any time by updating your settings.
- Troubleshoot and continue developing the App: To do so we track issues that might be occurring on our systems. We need this related data to carry out internal operations such as data analysis, testing, research, or for statistic-based purposes.
- Improve the products and services offered by The Mother Network and offer new features, products, and services. For example, using information to train, develop, and improve our technology and products.
- Conduct analytics and research on who is using our services and how the services are being used. For example, engagement for A/B product tests to conclude which app experience is better.
- Analyze a user’s log data and device information to identify and investigate suspicious behavior or violations of our policies or Terms.
- If needed, conduct age verification. This may include facial age estimation and matching your face against a government ID.
- May access user information in relation to a legal claim, litigation, or regulatory proceeding.
- Create aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. The Mother Network processes, maintains, and uses this information only in a de-identified fashion for the purposes of this Privacy Policy and will not attempt to re-identify such information.
- Collect data to protect our legal rights and to enforce our Terms and Conditions.
3. We also may use your information to personalize the ads you see
Specifically, we use the information we collect to:
- Determine which ads to show you on The Mother Network. For example, if you show an interest in newborn baby items, we may show you ads from partners who offer newborn baby products. Where we use cookies to identify your off-site interests, we’ll get your consent where required.
- Advertise The Mother Network products and services to you on other sites and apps. To do this, we disclose information such as cookie IDs, your IP address, or a hashed version of your email address to third parties, such as Facebook Ads, Google Marketing Platform, and others, who may combine that information with other information they already have about you and deliver ads about The Mother Network to you.
- Tell our ad partners how their Mother Network ads are doing and how to make them better. To do this, we disclose information about the ads you see or interact with on The Mother Network to our advertisers and third-party companies to improve the performance of the ads that we or they use to audit or improve the delivery and performance of ads or content on websites and apps. Some of this information is aggregated. For example, we would report to an advertiser that a certain percentage of people who viewed an ad went on to visit that advertiser's site. Depending on where you live and your settings, we may also disclose this information at an individual level. For example, we would let an advertiser know that a particular brand product has been saved to a wish list by certain people.
Some of these activities may be considered 'targeted advertising', 'sharing' or 'selling' as those terms are defined under certain privacy laws. You can opt out of The Mother Network using and disclosing your information for these purposes. To do so, visit your Privacy and data settings.
4. Your Data Rights and Choices
We offer you certain choices to control your data. To exercise these rights, please visit your account settings and, if you still need help, please contact support.
- Access: You can request access to the information that we collect and hold about you in a portable format. You can find more information about this by contacting support.
- Correction: You can correct your information by updating the information in your profile.
- Deletion: You can request to have your information deleted, including your account and all of its associated data. In your settings, select 'Delete your account' and follow the instructions.
- Opt out of 'targeted advertising', 'sharing' or 'sale': As explained above, some of our activities may constitute 'targeted advertising', 'sharing' or 'selling' as those terms are defined under certain privacy laws. You can opt out at any time by following the instructions in your 'Privacy and data settings' section of your account. Note that you will still see ads on our Services, but they will not be informed by offsite data.
- Disabling cookies: Disabling cookies can be done via your browser settings or by managing your cookie preferences on the App or Website. For more information on Cookies, please refer to our cookie policy.
We will not discriminate against you if you choose to exercise your rights or options related to your personal information. These rights may be limited, for example, if fulfilling your request would reveal personal data about another person, where they would infringe the rights of a third party (including our rights), or if you ask us to delete information that we are required by law to keep or have a compelling legitimate interest to keep. If we deny your request to exercise your rights, you may have the right to appeal our decision by contacting us at support@themothernetwork.com. Where we need to process your personal data either to comply with law, or to perform the terms of a contract we have with you, and you fail to provide that data when requested, please note we may not be able to deliver the contract we have or are trying to enter into with you, such as being able to provide you with access to The Mother Network App or deliver certain features.
In this case, we may have to stop you from using our App or Services provided by The Mother Network. If this occurs you will be notified by email.
5. How and When We Share Information
Any activity from a profile, public community, recommendation lists or wish lists that are set to “Public” can be seen by any member of the Mother Network.
We also share the categories of information described above:
- With vendors that we employ to process information on our behalf based on our instructions and for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. For example, we share data with security consultants to help us get better at identifying spam. Some information we acquire may be collected by vendors on our behalf.
- With law enforcement agencies, government agencies, researchers or other parties in compliance with laws, rules, or regulations. For example, we may get requests for account information from law enforcement authorities such as the police or courts. We only disclose information in response to such requests if we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, or legal request; to protect the safety, rights, or property of the public, any person, or The Mother Network; or to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, or technical issues. We may also share information if we believe it is necessary to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm to a person in emergency situations.
- With our corporate family of companies, including wholly-owned subsidiaries and affiliates. If we were to engage in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, dissolution, reorganization, or similar transaction or proceeding that involves the transfer of the information described in this Privacy Policy, we would share your information with a party involved in such a process (for example, a potential purchaser).
6. Transferring Your Information
The Mother Network is a worldwide service. By using our products or services, you authorize us to transfer and store your information outside your home country, including in the United States, for the purposes described in this policy. The privacy protections and the rights of authorities to access your personal information in such countries may not be equivalent to those of your home country.
7. How Long We Keep Your Information
We only keep your information for as long as we need it to provide you access to The Mother Network, and fulfill the purposes described in this policy. When we no longer need to use your information and there is no need for us to keep it to comply with our legal or regulatory obligations, we’ll either remove it from our systems or depersonalize it so that we can't use it to identify you.
If you request to have your account deleted, your data will be deleted from our system within thirty (30) days. To request we delete your account, please fill out this form.
8. Our Policy on Minor Account Information
Our app is for adults, therefore you have to be at least 18 years old to use the App. If we discover accounts operating by minors, they will be deleted.
9. Complaints
If you have a complaint regarding this Policy or our practices in relation to your personal data, please contact us at support@themothernetwork.com.
10. How We Make Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may change occasionally. If it does, we’ll post any changes on this page. If you continue to use The Mother Network after changes are in effect, the new Policy shall apply to you. If the changes are significant, we may provide more formal notice, such as sending an email. The revised Policy will apply from the date on which we post it on this page.
